Status Asthmaticus

Report:

Sinus tachycardia

Right axis deviation +120o

Clockwise rotation

Comment:

Right axis deviation may still be a normal variant in a young subject; in this case we can be sure it was a result of cor pulmonale as the axis normalised with clinical improvement ( Fig 210a below).

The tachycardia produces a spurious ST segment depression also seen in Fig 209a: an almost perfect arc with PR segment in lead 2.

This patient did not take time to become cyanosed or bradycardic – she stopped breathing rather suddenly.
